Melody Meckfessel is a hands-on technology leader with more than 20 years of experience building and maintaining large-scale distributed systems and solving problems at scale. In her current role as Senior Engineering Director, she leads Developer Tooling and Infrastructure for Google’s Cloud Platform and oversees a global team of 700-plus engineers. Melody’s team builds highly scalable developer systems, including workflow tools, automated build and test systems, deployment, monitoring, and management of services through Google’s massive Cloud.Melody is passionate about improving software development for the world’s developers, making it fast, scalable and fun.
After graduating from UC Berkeley, Melody began her career in programming for startups and enterprise companies. Since joining Google in 2004, Melody has led teams in Google’s core search systems, search quality and cluster management. 
Throughout her career, Melody has focused on user-driven results and believes that staying close to the user is critical to the success of complex engineering projects and system development. Over the past two decades, she has championed inclusion and diversity in tech. As the current Co-Chair of Technical Infrastructure Inclusion, Melody frequently speaks about bridging the gender gap and serves as a role model for creating and fostering an inclusive workplace for engineers.
